Mostly flat, Mauritania covers 1,030,700 square kilometers in the western Sahara dessert. It borders the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Senegal to the south, Western Sahara to the north, Algeria to the northeast, and Mali to the east. Specifically, it is located 19.57° N, 10.65° W. It is a part of the Maghreb Union,
which is a union between five Arab, Islamic countries with strong relations. These
countries are Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya.
